The final section of the enormous 4,750-tonne HS2 M6 South viaduct has now been successfully installed near Chelmsley Wood, completing BOTH parallel viaduct structures crossing the M6 motorway. And from the air, the sheer scale of this engineering achievement is absolutely incredible! Engineers have successfully completed the installation of the western M6 South viaduct deck, with the final section launched into position above the northbound and southbound carriageways near M6 junctions 4 and 4a. Weighing an incredible 4,750 tonnes, the 320-metre-long steel structure was carefully moved into position using giant hydraulic strand jacks, with traffic continuing to flow beneath the operation. This latest achievement follows the completion of the eastern viaduct in 2025, meaning BOTH structures are now structurally complete! The two parallel viaducts stand just 100 millimetres apart and will carry HS2 high-speed trains in opposite directions. 🔹 EASTERN VIADUCT: Trains heading towards HS2’s London stations at Old Oak Common and Euston. 🔹 WESTERN VIADUCT: Trains heading towards Birmingham Curzon Street and onwards towards Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow.
