How The Japanese Fleet Was Erased In 18 Minutes by Waiting Old U.S. Battleships. In the dark waters of Surigao Strait, Japan’s southern force sailed into a trap built layer by layer by Admiral Jesse Oldendorf and the U.S. Navy.
This WW2 story follows the road to Leyte Gulf, the desperate Japanese plan, Nishimura’s doomed advance, and the old American battleships waiting across the northern end of the strait. Many of those ships had been damaged or sunk at Pearl Harbor, only to return three years later with radar, heavier firepower, and unfinished business.
Was Surigao Strait the most complete naval ambush of the Pacific War? Share your thoughts in the comments.
