The test campaign runs in both small and larger scale to see if the results are the same: “Here we are testing a blade that we made here at DTU. This is a 12.6 meter blade that we've now cut down to about nine and a half meters. Our project partners over at Blaest are testing a much larger blade to see if a setup like this will also hold on a much larger blade. Now, it comes with a lot of challenges. For one, the spring needs to be a lot bigger. This is quite a small little carbon spring we have here. The one they have is significantly larger, and of course, the amount of work that goes into that is bigger. But if the results from that show the same as we see here, we are confident this can give a very good speed up to testing performance, not just for wind turbine blades, but for anything else that is structural and tends to vibrate.” Sebastian is a development engineer working on setting up and running tests like these at the Large Scale Facility at Campus Risø.
