How did the Quran begin? The story of the first revelation in the Cave of Hira — a night that changed history. In this video, we tell the story of the first revelation of the Quran: the retreats of Muhammad (peace be upon him) to the Cave of Hira outside Makkah, the coming of the angel Jibril (Gabriel), the command "Read," and the first revealed verses — Surah Al-Alaq (96:1-5). We follow his return to his wife Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her), her reassurance, and the counsel of Waraqah ibn Nawfal, then the pause in revelation and the passage most commonly cited as coming next, Surah Al-Muddaththir (74:1-5): "Arise and warn." Based on the narration of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) in Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of Revelation, Hadith 3 (also in Sahih Muslim). Direct Quranic quotations are given with surah and verse numbers; other accounts are paraphrased from the hadith narration and are labelled as such in the video. In this story you will discover: Why Muhammad (peace be upon him) withdrew to the Cave of Hira The first words of revelation: Surah Al-Alaq 96:1-5 Khadijah's reassurance and Waraqah's recognition of the message The pause in revelation and Surah Al-Muddaththir 74:1-5 Three lessons for modern life: making room for truth, treasuring supportive people, and letting character speak Perfect for Muslims, new Muslims, and anyone curious about how the Quran began. No prior Islamic knowledge needed — Arabic terms are explained as they appear.
