Boring history for sleep: what life was really like in a medieval village. Come back about seven hundred years to Thornby, a quiet English village in a river valley, and spend a slow year beside its watermill and its bread oven. Tonight's story follows Hugh the miller, his wife Maud, their son Wat and old Alys who keeps the village oven: the mill at dawn, the lord's mill and the miller's share, baking day at the village oven, ploughing and sowing in spring, hay and harvest in summer, threshing and the busy mill in autumn, short winter days and feasts, and a quiet night by the mill. History to fall asleep to: a calm sleep story for adults, read slowly by the fire. The pictures fade into a quiet hearth after about half an hour, and the last ten minutes are only the fire, so nothing on the screen will wake you. Which art style do you prefer: 1, 2 or 3? Tell us in the comments. And what time is it where you are, and where are you listening from?
