What Must I Do? | The One Work God Requires (John 6:29)

What must I do to be right with God? What must I do to know He is pleased with me? What must I do to finally feel secure? In this message, we follow that ancient question through Scripture — from the crowd in John 6, to the Great Commandment in Matthew 22, to the rich young ruler in Luke 18. Jesus' answer is surprising: "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent" (John 6:29). The work God requires is to rest on the work God has done. We'll see why the law is a perfect mirror but never a ladder, how Abraham's Ishmael shows what happens when we try to fulfill God's promises in our own strength, and why faith itself is a gift — a small resurrection worked by the same power that raised Christ from the dead. Your assurance does not rest on the strength of your faith, but on the faithfulness of the One your faith is holding. It is finished. 📖 KEY SCRIPTURES: John 6:28–29, 44 (The One Work God Requires) Matthew 22:37–40 & Luke 18:18–27 (The Law as a Mirror) Genesis 15:6; Romans 4:19–21; Galatians 4 (Abraham, Ishmael, and Isaac) Ephesians 2:4–8; Ephesians 1:19–20 (Faith as God's Gift) Matthew 11:28–30 (Come to Me and Find Rest) Galatians 5:6, 22–25 (The Fruit of the Spirit) 1 Thessalonians 5:16–24; John 19:30; Philippians 1:6 (He Will Do It) 📌 TIMESTAMPS / CHAPTERS: 00:00 - Introduction: The Oldest Question — "What Must I Do?" 00:33 - John 6: The One Work God Requires 01:36 - The Great Commandment: The Law as a Perfect Mirror 03:06 - The Rich Young Ruler: Salvation Is Not a Ladder 04:36 - The One Man Who Fulfilled the Law for Us 05:27 - Abraham, Ishmael, and Isaac: Promise vs. Flesh 07:05 - The Ishmaels We Still Make Today 07:49 - Where Does Faith Come From?
