The reward for waiting for the prayer time in the masjid is truly great — a “book in 'Illiyyin” is recorded for it, one that will not be opened except on the Day of Resurrection. In this short lecture, Sheikh Sulaiman Ar-Ruhaily explains several great virtues for the one who waits for the prayer time in the masjid, especially between the Maghrib and Isha prayers, without engaging in anything futile (laghw) between the two. He mentioned the saying of the Prophet ﷺ: صَلَاةٌ فِي إِثْرِ صَلَاةٍ لَا لَغْوَ بَيْنَهُمَا كِتَابٌ فِي عِلِّيِّينَ “A prayer followed by another prayer, with nothing futile between them, will be recorded as a book (a record) in 'Illiyyin.” (Note: the narrator and source of this hadith are not explicitly mentioned in the video.) He explained that this refers to a person who prays Maghrib, then waits until Isha without doing anything futile between the two; his deed will then be recorded in a “book in 'Illiyyin” that will not be opened except on the Day of Resurrection. The next virtue is that a person is recorded among those who pray (al-musallin) from the moment he leaves his home until he returns to it — he receives the reward of prayer whether standing, sitting, or waiting. Sheikh Ar-Ruhaily also mentioned another saying of the Prophet ﷺ: مَنْ تَطَهَّرَ فِي بَيْتِهِ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ يَرْعَى الصَّلَاةَ، كَتَبَ لَهُ كَاتِبَاهُ بِكُلِّ خُطْوَةٍ عَشْرَ الْحَسَنَاتِ، وَالْقَاعِدُ يَرْعَى الصَّلَاةَ كَالْقَانِتِ “Whoever purifies himself in his home, then goes out to wait for the prayer, his two recording angels write for him ten good deeds for every step. And the one who sits waiting for the prayer is like the one who is standing in qunut (long standing in prayer).” (Note: the narrator and source of this hadith are also not explicitly mentioned in the video.) He concluded this explanation by stressing that these great rewards require only a few brief moments, without any heavy effort — what is needed most is sincerity to the Lord of the worlds. He also prayed for happiness for anyone who sits in a gathering like this with sincerity. 📌 CHAPTERS: 00:00 The virtue of prayers in succession without laghw: recorded as a book in 'Illiyyin 00:09 Explaining the meaning of the “book in 'Illiyyin” opened on the Day of Resurrection 00:15 Condition: Maghrib then Isha with nothing futile in between 00:18 Hadith of the Prophet ﷺ about a prayer followed by another prayer 00:30 Recorded among those who pray from leaving home until returning 00:40 The reward of prayer is gained whether standing, sitting, or waiting 00:47 Hadith of the Prophet ﷺ about ten good deeds for every step to the masjid 01:05 The one who sits waiting for prayer is like the one in qunut 01:17 Reflection: great reward in a short time, sincerity is enough 01:29 Closing: happiness for those who sit sincerely in this gathering May this explanation by Sheikh Sulaiman Ar-Ruhaily motivate us to come to the masjid earlier and wait for the prayer time with sincerity.
