David becomes king, establishes Jerusalem as his capital, and receives God's promise that his royal lineage will endure. But even as his kingdom grows, David's own choices bring devastating consequences for his family. In today's one-hour reading, David recovers his family and possessions from the Amalekites, mourns the deaths of Saul and Jonathan, and becomes king over all Israel. He captures Jerusalem, brings the Ark of the Covenant into the city, and receives God's covenant promise. We also see David show kindness to Mephibosheth, before his adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of Uriah lead to confrontation by the prophet Nathan. The reading continues through the turmoil in David's family, including Amnon's assault on Tamar, Absalom's revenge, and Absalom's eventual return to Jerusalem. This reading is a powerful reminder that even a great king is not above accountability, and that our choices can carry consequences far beyond ourselves. The chapter range reflects how far I progressed during this one-hour reading session. The goal is not to finish a set number of chapters, but to spend one hour in God's Word each day. This is also a personal time capsule—a record of ME reading the Bible that my children can return to years from now. One hour. Every day. Keep reading.
