Life as a Medieval Toilet Cleaner

In medieval and Tudor London, someone had to empty the city's toilets. By hand. At night. Waist-deep. This is a day in the life of a gong farmer: the men who climbed down into London's cesspits after dark, shovelled out years of waste, and vanished before sunrise. Toxic fumes, a man who drowned in his own privy, and the twist nobody expects: it was one of the best-paid jobs a working man could get. This video is a dramatised first-person story, based on historical records. Life Back Then: history, one terrible day at a time. Subscribe for a new life every week. #history #medieval #dayinthelife
