Roger Sanchez joined Alan and Clara in Ibiza to reflect on an extraordinary career that began in Queens, New York, taking him from breakdancing and underground house parties to becoming one of the world’s most respected DJs and producers. Roger recalls discovering music through breakdancing, before moving into DJing and becoming immersed in funk, disco, hip hop and New York house culture. He talks about making and selling mixtapes and his early productions that first got him noticed including 'Luv Dancing' on Strictly Rhythm and tells the story of creating 'Another Chance', sampling Toto for what was intended to be an underground album track - only for it to become Defected's first UK No. 1. His connection with Ibiza began in 1995, and he explains why the island immediately felt like a second home. Roger looks back at some of his most memorable Ibiza moments, his relationship with Pacha and Flower Power, and the importance of understanding and preserving the culture behind the island’s clubs. Roger discusses the DJs who have influenced him, from Larry Levan, Tony Humphries and Timmy Regisford to Carl Cox, Jeff Mills, Frankie Knuckles, David Morales and Danny Tenaglia. For Roger, technical ability is important, but the real skill is understanding the crowd.  His latest album Spectrum, created over several years and featuring collaborations including Mel C, reflects his belief that sound can be viewed like colour with each track occupying a different part of an emotional spectrum. Now celebrating the 25th anniversary of ‘Another Chance’, with more new music and Flower Power plans ahead, Roger shows no signs of slowing down and we’re delighted to induct him as the first American DJ and producer into the Ibiza Hall Of Fame. Presented by Alan Warman and Clara Griffin. Edited by Billy Booth. Produced by Dave Lambert. Follow/subscribe to never miss an episode.
