"Dies irae" from Mozart's Requiem (K. 626), remixed for the Atari 7800: the hammering choir as a C64-style chiptune, "Quantus tremor" as a riser, the main theme as a half-time dubstep drop, then back to the chiptune for the end. Played from the public-domain score: every pitch, chord and bass note comes from the Mutopia Project engraving of the 1877 Breitkopf & Haertel edition (Mozart, completed by Suessmayr). The drums, the wobble and growl rhythms and every sound are ours. This version: two POKEY chips + the TIA, real 7800 playback (dual POKEY, as on the 7800 GameDrive), recorded in an emulator. Sound: POKEY A ($450): a PWM lead, 1-frame chord arps and a falling counter-arp; in the drop the 16-bit PWM wobble and a buzz/pure growl. POKEY B ($440): violin 1's driving 16ths and their echo, an octave-jumping 16-bit bass with a deep kick, then the choir stabs and a sub-bass. TIA: kick, snare and hats. Key and tempo: D minor, 180 bpm; the drop at 150 bpm, half-time. Length: 2:30. Needs two POKEY chips on the cartridge (7800 GameDrive). The same remix comes in four versions, each built for its chip: Dual POKEY, TIA, Minnie-style and AMY-inspired. The picture is a PC redraw of the "7800 Music" jukebox screen, its spectrum computed from the audio (the remix is not in a jukebox ROM). Sound leveled to -14 LUFS. The video starts with the Abysmal Games logo and its sound. Music by Abysmal Games, from Mozart's Requiem https://www.abysmal-games.com/ #Atari7800 #chiptune #POKEY #Mozart #8bit
