In 2009 winemaker Michał Poddany planted 600 vinifera vines on his parents' south-west slope; after two harsh winters, 12 were left. He replanted, made seven vintages only for himself to learn from the vineyard, and sold his first wine in 2023. We talk about his mentor at Marchesi Alfieri in Piedmont, nights watching the thermometer for −18 °C, spring frost in 2024, why Pinot Noir is the easy grape in Poland, and why he wants to stay small, with a basket press and no more than three labels in his lifetime.
