In this video, I walk through IELTS Reading Passage 1: “The Father of English Geology”, covering Questions 1 to 13. I use a keyword table to show how to match the words in each question to the words in the passage, so you can find every answer quickly and with confidence. This passage tells the story of William Smith (1769-1839), the surveyor whose 1815 geological map of England, Wales and part of Scotland helped shape Britain’s science and industry during the Industrial Revolution. It follows his discoveries, the struggle to gain recognition, and the lasting value of geological mapping. 📌 What’s covered in this video: Questions 1-6: True/False/Not Given Questions 7-13: Sentence completion (one word only) 💡 Skills you’ll practise: Building a keyword table: question words → passage words Telling False from Not Given (e.g. Question 3, where the passage mentions his interest in fossils but never says his school encouraged it) Spotting paraphrases (e.g. “growing demand for surveyors” = “an increasing number of openings for that profession”) Finding exact one-word answers in sentence completion 🪨 Topics discussed in the passage: William Smith’s early life and his training as a surveyor His discovery that rock layers can be identified by their fossils The first geological map of Bath and the famous 1815 map The Geological Atlas and the Wollaston Medal How his work supported canal builders, mine owners and the Industrial Revolution Why geological maps still matter today Perfect for IELTS Academic candidates who want to improve their skimming and scanning, paraphrase recognition and accuracy on True/False/Not Given and sentence completion questions. 📲 Follow for more IELTS practice: YouTube:    / @erkinjon_writes   Telegram: https://t.me/abduraimov_erkinjon 👍 If this helped, please like, comment your score below, and subscribe for more IELTS Reading practice sessions! #IELTS #IELTSReading #IELTSPreparation #IELTSTips #StudyEnglish #IELTSAcademic
