Before the Reckoning | The Social Network (2010) Movie Review | Oscar Rewind

More than 16 years ago, David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin gave us a fascinating look at the birth of Facebook — and the friendships, rivalries, and betrayals that came with it. Now, with The Social Reckoning in theaters, it's time to revisit the Oscar-winning original 🎬 Oscar Rewind – Season 3, Episode 53 We're kicking off Chapter 7: Beyond Reality, looking back at the earlier work of this year's Oscar-nominated visual effects artists and other craftspeople. In this episode, I revisit The Social Network and discuss: 💻 The dramatic origins of Facebook and the complicated relationships behind its creation. 🎭 Jesse Eisenberg's remarkable performance as Mark Zuckerberg and Andrew Garfield's breakout turn as Eduardo Saverin. 🎸 Justin Timberlake's surprisingly effective performance as Sean Parker. 🎥 David Fincher's direction, Jeff Cronenweth's cinematography, and the film's slick but somber visual style. ✂️ Kirk Baxter and Angus Wall's sharp editing and the nonlinear storytelling that keeps the film moving. 🎼 Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross's atmospheric, unsettling score. 🔥 The film's practical and atmospheric effects, including the connection to special effects foreman Brandon K. McLaughlin, who later worked on The Lost Bus. 🏆 The Social Network's eight Oscar nominations, three wins, and lasting awards-season legacy. Does The Social Network still deserve a place among David Fincher's best films?
