What do our dreams really mean — and where do they come from? In this video, I explore dream interpretation from three very different perspectives: Islamic tradition, Sigmund Freud, and Carl Jung. Are dreams messages from God, expressions of our unconscious mind, hidden wishes, psychological symbols, or simply reflections of our daily thoughts and fears? We begin with the Islamic understanding of dreams: true or good dreams, disturbing dreams, and dreams that come from our own thoughts and inner state. I also discuss classical dream interpretation associated with Ibn Sirin, the importance of personal context, and why the same symbol may not mean the same thing for everyone. Then we move to Freud’s The Interpretation of Dreams, including manifest and latent content, wish fulfilment, repression, childhood conflicts, and some of Freud’s most famous dream examples. Finally, we look at Carl Jung’s Man and His Symbols — the unconscious, archetypes, the shadow, symbolism, compensation, and the idea that a dream may show us something about ourselves that our conscious mind is unable or unwilling to see. I also ask some difficult questions: Can a dream really predict the future? Why is astrology rejected in Islam while some dreams are accepted as meaningful? Is dream interpretation actually discovering meaning — or are interpreters sometimes imposing their own beliefs on the dream? And if Freud, Jung, and classical Muslim interpreters can give completely different meanings to the same symbol, how can we know which interpretation is true? This video is not about giving you a simple dream dictionary.
