A beginner's tutorial at real speed. We model a small garden shed from an empty model using only the modeller's core tools: keyboard shortcuts, the mouse and typed sizes. The assistant is not used, and neither is any module. Every step is captioned with what to do and why. The pace leaves time for the on-screen aids to appear, such as Push/Pull's direction arrow and its distance field.
You'll learn to:
draw a rectangle from the origin and type its sizes (width, Tab, height)
move around the model with the mouse: the wheel zooms, the middle button orbits, and Shift+Z frames everything
use Push/Pull (P): press on a face, drag, wait for the arrow and the distance, then type the exact value
use Offset (F) to turn a floor into 100 mm walls
set out with the Tape Measure (T), using guides and guide points
draw a gable with Line (L) in a chosen plane, and make the roof a separate body
use Move (M) on a locked axis (the Left arrow key) to give the roof its overhang
cut a door and a window through the walls: a negative push cuts
paint with the Paint Bucket (B), read the volume in the inspector, and look round with Orbit (O)
The shed: 2.4 × 1.8 m, floor 100 mm, walls 100 mm up to 2.1 m, gable roof 2.7 m to the ridge with a 150 mm overhang at each end, door 800 × 1900, window 600 × 500 with its sill at 1.1 m. The inspector reads 1.85 m³ for the floor and walls.
