'The God They Gave Me' - Sadie St. Claire (Official Music Video) | Southern Gothic Americana

Before she ever knew who she was... She was told who to put first. This isn't a song about rejecting faith. It's about asking whether faith can truly belong to someone if they were never given the chance to choose it. Set against the backdrop of rural Louisiana church, inherited traditions, and generations of unquestioned devotion, Sadie reflects on the difference between borrowed belief and a relationship that is genuinely her own. Sometimes the hardest journey isn't walking away. Sometimes it's discovering whether what you were handed was ever really yours. Lyrics: Before I knew my own name They told me who to pray to Sunday morning White dress, folded hands Little girl learning Someone else's plans "Put Him first" That's what they said So I carried those words Inside my head I knew every prayer I knew every line But nobody asked me If He was mine The God they gave me Was never mine to choose I was taught who to follow Before I knew the truth They said, "Have no other gods" Don't let idols take your place But I saw them bow to power While they spoke about Your grace I watched them chase money I watched them chase names Build their little kingdoms And call it faith They warned me of idols They warned me of pride But some wore a collar And some wore a tie I don't know where You end And they begin But I know their voices Were not always You speaking Maybe You never wanted A child who was afraid Maybe You wanted honesty Not words I was made to say The God they gave me Was never mine to choose But if I find You someday It will be because I choose Not because I was frightened Not because I was told But because something real Called my soul home Before I knew my own name... I knew Yours. ___ Album is available at Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/s/2c26eee3e2 Streaming: Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/artist/3tJG7...
