Welcome to Wolf Data, from 1990 to 2026, Germany’s population became increasingly diverse as reunification, European integration, labor migration, refugee movements and international mobility transformed the country. Large communities with origins in Türkiye, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, Syria, Italy, Russia and other countries became an increasingly important part of German society. Official German statistics show this transformation clearly: by 2025, approximately 21.8 million people in Germany had an immigration history, defined by Destatis as people who themselves, or whose two parents, immigrated to Germany since 1950. Destatis Germany also had 12.43 million foreign nationals at the end of 2025, compared with 6.34 million in 2011. GENESIS-Online Major migration waves—including arrivals from Eastern Europe after the Cold War, EU enlargement, refugees from Syria after 2015 and Ukrainians following Russia’s invasion in 2022—significantly reshaped the country's demographic composition. In 2022 alone, Germany recorded net international migration of approximately 1.46 million people. Destatis This 1990–2026 timeline follows how Germany’s population by origin changed over more than three decades, revealing the country’s transformation into one of Europe’s most diverse societies. 🇩🇪🌍 ⛲Sources: ▫️German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) ▫️Microcensus ▫️Central Register of Foreigners (AZR) ▫️GENESIS-Online Population Statistics 💻Editor: ▫️Filmora 🖼️Thumbnails: ▫️Canva Countries featured in the video: Germany Turkey Poland Ukraine Russia Syria Kazakhstan Romania Italy Kosovo Afghanistan Bosnia & herzegovina India Greece Bulgaria Serbia Iran Austria Iraq Croatia Morocco
