Returning from fieldwork across Africa, team members of PolMig (“The Political Lives of Migrants: Perspectives from Africa”) share their reflections from the first fieldwork phase. In this episode, the projects doctoral student Sophia Stille tells us about her time conducting research in Malawi and Liberia. This fieldwork stay was the first of three, with the next fieldwork phase planned for early 2027. If you don’t want to miss any of the exciting developments, consider signing up for the PolMig newsletter. Sign up for the PolMig newsletter here: https://www.polmig.eu/newsletter About PolMig: PolMig explores the political lives of refugees and migrants across Africa, investigating how they define and exercise political agency within postcolonial state contexts. Using innovative methods like migrant agency diaries and theatre workshops, the project examines how factors like migration trajectory, gender, class and race shape this agency. By centring African perspectives, PolMig aims to build an Afrocentric understanding of migrant political agency with relevance far beyond the continent.
