Asmodeus, Overlord of the Nine Hells | D&D Lore To Sleep To

Long before he sat on a throne at the bottom of the Nine Hells, Asmodeus was a jealous spirit of wrath haunting a bridal chamber in ancient Media, driven off by the smoke of a burning fish. This calm, unhurried documentary traces his long path from the Book of Tobit, the Talmud and the old grimoires to the Overlord of the Dukes of Hell in the first Monster Manual. It follows his changing stories through every edition and many novels: the Serpents of Law, the Pact Primeval, the god who slew a god, the Trial of Asmodeus and Chains of Asmodeus. Along the way it shows why the patient king of Nessus matters so much to the Forgotten Realms, from the Toril Thirteen and the Brimstone Angels saga to Descent into Avernus and Baldur's Gate 3.
