The Nine Hells | D&D Lore To Sleep To

At the very bottom of the Nine Hells, beneath a citadel rising from a frozen lake, a vast and wounded serpent is said to lie coiled in the spiral its own fall carved. Tonight we walk the long descent slowly, from the old roads downward laid by Virgil, Dante, Milton and the Faust legend, through Gygax's first devils and Ed Greenwood's grand tour of the nine layers. We follow the Hells as they become Baator, endure the Reckoning, gain the Pact Primeval, drift into the Astral Sea and return to the great wheel, with Zariel, the Hellriders of Elturel and Raphael of Baldur's Gate 3 along the way. And we see why this realm of contracts and cruel order matters so deeply to the Forgotten Realms, where its bargains reach into cities, bloodlines and the dreams of heroes.
