🌍 What if Earth spun a tiny bit faster every second? 8 days, seen from the ground and from space. Every second, the ground spins 0.0002% faster. That's too little to feel, but the air and the oceans can't keep up. We follow it for eight days from three places: a fishing village at 45° north, a city on an east-facing coast, and the equator. Then we go up and watch the whole planet. 🌊 The sea drains out of the bay and piles up across the ocean 💨 A wind that never stops grows to hurricane force, with gusts of 260 km/h (160 mph) 🌲 At 150 km/h (95 mph), most trees break, whatever their size 🪐 The planet gets squashed, cracks open and throws its equator into a ring 🌑 Then we stop pushing, and the ring builds a brand-new moon 📐 What we assume Only the ground is pushed: +0.0002% per second until it spins about 3× faster, then four times harder, stopping at 11×. Winds, sea levels and the break-up are rough, first-order estimates. Past about 2×, nobody knows exactly how real rock fails, and past 9× the details are speculative. We don't say what does the pushing. ⏱️ Chapters 0:00 An ordinary morning 0:15 The sea gets left behind 0:45 A wind that never stops 1:06 East-facing coasts flood 1:40 21-hour days 2:02 Hurricane force 2:30 All the water goes to the equator 3:00 The forest breaks 3:35 The sea in the streets 4:05 Storms stretched into stripes 4:30 Roofs, then walls 5:15 The sea climbs the hills 5:40 No rain left, only dust 6:05 The ground starts to tear 6:42 The planet gets squashed 7:52 The equator lifts off 8:22 The mountain splits 9:02 A ring around the planet 9:37 A new moon 10:00 Where it settles 🔔 Subscribe for more what-ifs: we change one thing about the world and watch what happens. #whatif #earth #physics
