Watch a sloth watercolour painting emerge from blank paper using just one colour: Neutral Grey.
Dream Slow is my expressive watercolour sloth, created as part of my Monochrome March series, where each wildlife painting was made using a single watercolour.
For this piece I worked entirely with Neutral Grey, using changes in value, loose washes, preserved white paper, splashes and expressive marks to create the sloth's form without introducing additional colours.
I love how much variety can come from one pigment. From the darkest markings around the face to the softer washes disappearing into the paper, the entire painting is built through different strengths of the same colour.
If you enjoy wildlife art, expressive watercolour and watching a painting develop from blank paper to finished artwork, subscribe to Raven Foster Art. I share new painting videos every Monday and Friday.
