Four common IELTS Speaking Part 2 cue cards, each answered at Band 9: a person, a place, a photograph and a time you changed your mind. After every answer, a teacher explains briefly why it is Band 9, and the phrases he talks about light up on screen as he says them. A timer shows how long the candidate speaks, and the points on the cue card light up as she covers them.
How to practise with this video
1. When a cue card appears, pause the video and speak for up to two minutes yourself.
2. Then play the Band 9 answer and notice how it covers every point on the card.
3. Take one gold phrase from each answer and use it in your own answer.
4. Shadow the answers: play a few sentences, pause, and say them back at the same pace.

What each cue card teaches
1. Describe someone you know who is very good at their job: Show, don't tell: one real moment and the person's own words prove the skill.
2. Describe a place you visited that was very different from what you expected: Expectation against reality: exact contrast language and precise description.
3. Describe a photograph that means a lot to you: Grammar range used naturally: layers of past time, a passive, used to.
4. Describe a time you changed your mind about something important: Ideas linked as a chain of reasons, a qualified opinion, a short look back.
