World Cup advertising in the U.S. grew from less than **$400 million in 2022 to roughly $2 billion in 2026**. How did that happen? In this episode of **Media Monitor**, Kelly Sweeney and Sean Wright break down Guideline’s first-ever game-by-game World Cup advertising analysis. The 2026 tournament was larger, closer to U.S. audiences, easier to watch across time zones, and much more heavily distributed through streaming. That combination helped drive major growth across ad revenue, impressions, and pricing. Guideline estimates streaming impressions increased from roughly **2 billion during the 2022 Qatar World Cup to around 7 billion in 2026**. Streaming and simulcast advertising accounted for roughly $500 million, while television contributed approximately $1.5 billion. Pricing also changed dramatically. A World Cup Final ad unit averaged just under **$2 million**, compared with roughly $500,000 during the 2022 Final. U.S. matches were especially valuable, with two knockout-round games generating roughly $40 million each in advertising revenue. Another major shift came from Spanish-language streaming. Telemundo accounted for around one-third of streaming ad dollars in 2022. In 2026, that share climbed to just under half. Kelly and Sean also look ahead to the 2030 World Cup and discuss how rights holders may create additional value through streaming distribution, sponsorship, social content, and new forms of live-event monetization. *Topics covered:* • World Cup advertising revenue • FIFA World Cup media spending • Sports advertising • World Cup streaming • Live sports media rights • Fox World Cup • Telemundo World Cup • Peacock streaming • Streaming impressions • Sports ad pricing • World Cup Final advertising • Spanish-language sports media • U.S. soccer audience growth • 2030 World Cup media strategy Chapters: 00:00 Welcome to Media Monitor 00:21 Fall Flannel Banter 01:26 Why Revisit the World Cup 02:04 Tournament Recap and Messi 03:58 Data Scope and Method 05:26 Ad Revenue Explosion 07:47 Biggest Games by Spend 09:09 Streaming Surge in Impressions 10:45 Ad Pricing Jumps 13:00 Telemundo and Peacock Growth 15:02 Viewership Signals and Records 16:08 Predictions for 2030 19:23 Ted Lasso and Sports Media 21:03 Wrap Up and Subscribe Subscribe to *Media Monitor* for weekly conversations about advertising, media, streaming, data, and market trends. #WorldCup #Advertising #SportsMedia #Streaming #MediaMonitor
