Can we turn a traditional Christmas pudding into a sparkling jewellery set?
Thank you to everyone returning to the wonderful world of the Digital Tea Room—and a warm welcome if this is your first visit.
On today’s Christmas special, we’re creating a handcrafted Christmas pudding pendant and matching stud earrings. Rich brown resin, black synthetic opal “fruit,” gold leaf and diamante chains bring this festive set to life. The white pudding topping has a surprise of its own: a pale blue glow once charged.
Settle in with a cup of tea and join us at the workbench for the full DIY process, from the first transparent brown pour to the final finishing coat.
For our Christmas pudding set, we use:
• UV resin and silicone moulds
• Brown and black pigment dyes
• Gold mica powder for a subtle shimmer
• Black synthetic opal to represent the pudding’s fruit
• Gold leaf for festive highlights
• Diamante chains to frame the white topping
• White dye and glow powder
• Sterling silver stud posts and a pendant screw fitting
And, as always at our workbench, not everything went perfectly.
My original plan was to leave a space for the white topping. That didn’t work as intended, so I changed the approach and built it over a complete brown layer instead.
The diamante chains had ideas of their own, too. Getting them into position took patience—and two cocktail sticks.
Along the way, we cover:
• Building the pudding in thin UV resin layers
• Cutting and positioning the diamante chains
• Adding the white glow topping
• Decorating with black synthetic opal and gold leaf
• Securing the sterling silver stud posts and pendant fitting
• Applying clear resin finishing coats
• Sanding and shaping the pieces
• Using acrylic varnish to restore the shine after sanding
Each piece has its own arrangement of opal and gold leaf, making every pudding a little different. You’ll see the adjustments, the fiddly moments and the lessons that will help us make the next set even better.
That’s what the Digital Tea Room workbench is all about.
Learning as we grow.
