Welcome back to the wonderful world of the Digital Tea Room—and a warm welcome if this is your first visit.
In today’s Christmas special, we’re making festive candy cane earrings with shimmering red stripes and white bands that glow aqua in the dark once charged.
We really enjoyed this simple project. There’s no super glue or wood veneer involved, which is very unusual for us here at the workbench! Just a little resin, Christmas colour and patience.
To follow along, you’ll need:
• UV resin
• A candy cane silicone resin mould
• White glow-in-the-dark powder
• Red resin pigment—we used a darker red to enrich the colour
• A little shimmer powder
• Mixing pots and cocktail sticks
• An embossing heat gun
• A UV curing lamp
• A diamond-coated jeweller’s file
• Jewellery pliers
• Jump rings
• Sterling silver earring hooks
• Suitable protective equipment for working with resin
Come along for the full DIY process: carefully filling the glowing stripes, mixing our festive red, building and curing the resin in layers, demoulding, smoothing the edges and fitting the earring hooks.
The stripe filling takes a little care. Some footage is sped up, but take your time at your own workbench. We show 180-second curing stages; follow the instructions for your particular resin and lamp.
As always, we share the fiddly moments and what we learn along the way. Every little experiment adds something to our continuing creative journey.
Learning as we grow.
Would you wear these festive earrings, give them as a Christmas gift, or use the candy canes as miniature tree decorations? Let us know in the comments.
