Nightmail Express Earrings | Wood Veneer & UV Resin Jewellery Tutorial

Some letters brought bills. Others brought friendship, stories—or love. Join us at the Digital Tea Room as we make the Nightmail Express earrings: a tribute to the overnight mail trains that carried our letters, connecting people near and far. Written correspondence was a big part of how we communicated. Not everyone had a telephone. We didn’t have a landline at home until I was eighteen, in 1988, and I didn’t have a mobile until I was around thirty. Perhaps that’s why I’m still rather old-fashioned about letters. In this tutorial, we combine wood veneer, written washi tape and UV resin to create a pair of earrings inspired by those journeys. You’ll see the shaping, layering, sealing and finishing—and the mistakes along the way. This pair had some troublesome resin overspill, so we return to the workbench, sand it back and put it right.
