💬 Sometimes “I’m fine” doesn’t tell the whole story. Practice finding the English words for how you really feel with English Speaking Station. Do you want to explain that you’re nervous, tired, frustrated, or simply having a busy day? In Episode 7, our topic is Feelings & Stress. Practice everyday English for describing emotions, talking about pressure, and responding thoughtfully when someone shares how they feel. 🎧 TODAY’S TOPIC: FEELINGS & STRESS Use this topic to practice explaining a feeling and giving a reason. You can also talk about what you need, ask someone how they are, and keep a supportive everyday conversation going. 🗣️ QUESTIONS TO PRACTICE • “How are you feeling today?” • “Is something worrying you?” • “What has your day been like?” • “Are you nervous about tomorrow?” • “Do you want to talk about it?” • “Would you like some help?” • “What do you enjoy doing after a busy day?” • “Would you rather talk or have some quiet time?” Choose questions that suit the person and situation. Give someone room to answer, and remember that they may prefer to keep their feelings private. 📚 BUILD YOUR EMOTIONS VOCABULARY Practice words you can connect to everyday experiences: 😊 Positive feelings: happy, excited, hopeful, proud, relieved 😟 Difficult feelings: worried, nervous, upset, frustrated, disappointed 💭 Busy-day feelings: stressed, overwhelmed, tired, distracted 🌿 Quieter feelings: calm, relaxed, comfortable, content Try phrases such as “nervous about an interview,” “proud of my progress,” and “relieved that it’s finished.” A short example helps you understand how to use each word in conversation. 💬 USEFUL SENTENCES TO MAKE YOUR OWN “I’m feeling a little nervous today.” “I’ve had a lot on my mind.” “I feel stressed because I have several deadlines.” “I’m happy with the progress I’ve made.” “I need a little time to myself.” “Could you help me with this task?” “I’d like to talk, if you have a moment.” “Thank you for listening.” Change the feeling or reason to match your own experience. You can begin with “I feel…” or “I’m feeling…” and add a detail using “because.” 🌟 RESPOND WITH CARE IN ENGLISH When someone shares a difficult day, practice simple responses: “That sounds difficult.” “I’m sorry you’ve had such a busy day.” “Would you like to tell me more?” “Is there anything I can help with?” “It’s okay if you don’t want to talk right now.” These expressions help you acknowledge what someone says without assuming you know exactly how they feel. Listen to their answer before deciding what to say next. 🔗 MAKE YOUR ANSWERS MORE COMPLETE Instead of saying only “I’m tired,” try: “I’m tired because I stayed up late finishing an assignment.” Instead of saying only “I’m excited,” add: “I’m excited about seeing my friend this weekend.” You can also describe mixed feelings: “I’m excited about my new job, but I’m a little nervous too.” Practice connecting ideas with “because,” “but,” and “so.” 🎧 HOW TO PRACTICE WITH THIS EPISODE 1. Listen for the main idea. Notice the feelings being discussed and how the conversation develops. 2. Choose three useful expressions. Pick phrases you could use in your own everyday conversations. 3. Pause and repeat aloud. Practice pronunciation, rhythm, and a natural speaking tone. 4. Shadow a short section. Speak along with the audio, then repeat the phrase independently. 5. Personalize your answers. Describe a real or imagined situation using a feeling and a reason. Keep your practice comfortable. You can use fictional examples when you would rather not share something personal. 🎯 YOUR SPEAKING CHALLENGE Describe a day in three sentences: say how you felt, explain why, and describe what you wanted to do next. Then practice asking a friend how their day went and responding to their answer. 💬 JOIN THE CONVERSATION What is one English word that describes your mood today?
