💼 From your first morning greeting to your last task of the day, office life gives you plenty of opportunities to practice English! Do you want to talk about your workday, ask a coworker for help, or explain what you are working on? In Episode 6 of English Speaking Station, our topic is Office Life. Practice everyday English for workplace conversations and build sentences you can adapt to your own job or a future role. 🎧 TODAY’S TOPIC: OFFICE LIFE Practice explaining your responsibilities, checking a deadline, and asking someone to clarify a task. Start with a clear sentence and add the detail the listener needs. 🗣️ QUESTIONS TO PRACTICE • “What time do you usually start work?” • “What are you working on today?” • “Could you help me with this task?” • “When is the deadline?” • “What time does the meeting start?” • “Could you explain that part again?” • “Would you like to join us for lunch?” • “How did your presentation go?” Choose a question that fits the situation. For example, “Could you help me when you have a moment?” gives you a polite way to ask for support. 📚 BUILD YOUR OFFICE VOCABULARY Practice useful words for common workplace situations: 🏢 People and places: coworker, colleague, manager, team, department 📋 Daily work: task, project, schedule, deadline, responsibility 💻 Communication: email, message, update, meeting, presentation 📄 Documents: report, file, notes, agenda, attachment ☕ Breaks: lunch break, coffee break, break room, conversation Connect vocabulary to phrases such as “finish a report,” “send an update,” “attend a meeting,” and “meet a deadline.” Then use a phrase to describe something you do or might do at work. 💬 USEFUL SENTENCES TO MAKE YOUR OWN “I usually start work at…” “My main responsibility is…” “I’m working on a report today.” “I’ll send you an update this afternoon.” “Could you check this when you have time?” “I’m not sure what this part means.” “Let’s discuss it after the meeting.” “Thank you for explaining that.” 🌟 ASK FOR HELP AND CLARIFICATION When a task is unclear, practice asking a specific question: “Should I include last month’s figures in the report?” You can check your understanding with: “Just to confirm, you need this by Friday?” If you need help, explain what you have already done: “I’ve completed the first section, but I’m having trouble with the next step.” This gives your coworker useful context. 💬 MAKE FRIENDLY SMALL TALK “How was your weekend?” “Have you tried the café nearby?” “Do you have any plans after work?” “That was an interesting presentation.” Follow the other person’s answer with a related question. Keep the conversation appropriate to your relationship and give them space to return to their work. 🔗 DESCRIBE A WORKDAY CLEARLY Use the present simple for a routine: “I check my email every morning.” Use the present continuous for an activity happening now: “I’m preparing for a meeting.” Connect your ideas with “first,” “then,” and “after that”: “First, I review my tasks. Then I work on the most urgent one.” Practice describing a typical day in a few connected sentences. 🎧 HOW TO PRACTICE WITH THIS EPISODE 1. Listen for the main idea. Notice the workplace situations and how the conversation develops. 2. Choose useful expressions. Pick phrases you could use for tasks, questions, or small talk. 3. Pause and repeat aloud. Practice pronunciation, rhythm, and a comfortable speaking pace. 4. Try a short role-play. Imagine asking a coworker about a meeting or requesting help. 5. Personalize your answers. Use your own routine or create an imaginary office role. 🎯 YOUR SPEAKING CHALLENGE Describe an office day in four sentences.
