💼 Your first job interview starts with a conversation. Practice finding the English words to introduce yourself and explain what you can offer with English Speaking Station! What can you say when an interviewer asks, “Tell me about yourself”? How do you talk about your skills when you are applying for your first job? In Episode 10, our topic is First Job Interview. Use this practical English conversation topic to prepare your own answers, build interview vocabulary, and practice listening carefully to questions. Focus on clear, honest sentences about your education, interests, strengths, and willingness to learn. 🎧 TODAY’S TOPIC: FIRST JOB INTERVIEW A first interview can feel unfamiliar, especially when you are speaking English. Practice the language for greeting the interviewer, describing your background, explaining your interest in a role, and asking a question before the conversation ends. 🗣️ INTERVIEW QUESTIONS TO PRACTICE • “Could you tell me a little about yourself?” • “Why are you interested in this position?” • “What are your strengths?” • “What skills would you bring to the team?” • “Can you describe a time you solved a problem?” • “How do you work with other people?” • “What would you like to learn in this role?” • “Do you have any questions for us?” Try answering one question at a time. Begin with your main point, then add a short example instead of memorizing a long speech. 📚 BUILD YOUR JOB INTERVIEW VOCABULARY Practice words you can use to describe work and experience: 💼 The interview: applicant, interviewer, position, company, opportunity 📄 Your background: education, experience, project, training, resume 🤝 Working together: teamwork, communication, responsibility, support 🎯 Your abilities: skill, strength, organized, reliable, adaptable 📚 Your next steps: learn, improve, contribute, develop, prepare 💬 USEFUL SENTENCE STARTERS “Thank you for meeting with me.” “I recently completed…” “I’m interested in this role because…” “One of my strengths is…” “For example, I…” “I haven’t done that professionally yet, but…” “I’m willing to learn…” “Could you tell me more about…?” 🌟 TALK ABOUT SKILLS WITH AN EXAMPLE Instead of saying only “I’m organized,” give a brief example: “During a class project, I kept track of our tasks and deadlines.” Instead of saying only “I work well with others,” explain something you did: “I listened to my teammates and helped divide the work.” You can practice describing a situation, what you did, and what happened afterward. A specific example gives the listener more information than a list of positive words. 💬 WHEN YOU NEED A MOMENT “Could you repeat the question, please?” “Could you explain what you mean?” “Let me think of an example.” “That’s a good question. I’d say…” Practice these expressions so you can ask for clarification or take a moment to organize an answer. Then return to the question with a clear response. ❓ QUESTIONS YOU CAN PRACTICE ASKING “What would a typical day in this role look like?” “What training is provided for someone joining the team?” “What are the next steps in the interview process?” 🎧 HOW TO PRACTICE WITH THIS EPISODE 1. Listen for the main idea. Notice the questions and how the conversation moves between them. 2. Choose useful phrases. Pick expressions you could use in your own introduction or answers. 3. Pause and repeat aloud. Practice pronunciation, rhythm, and a comfortable speaking pace. 4. Try a short role-play. Answer as the applicant, then switch roles and ask the questions. 5. Make your answers personal. Use your own education, experiences, and reasons for applying. 🎯 YOUR SPEAKING CHALLENGE Introduce yourself in four sentences. Mention your background, one relevant skill, an example of that skill, and something you would like to learn. Then practice answering one follow-up question. 💬 JOIN THE CONVERSATION Which interview question would you like to practice most?
