Why Is This Mumbai Metro So Tall ? | LINE 12 KALYAN - DOMBIVLI - TALOJA GROUND UPDATE

Mumbai Metro Line 12 is set to become one of the most important new public transport links for the rapidly growing Kalyan–Dombivli–Taloja belt. In collaboration with MMRDA, I visited the under-construction Kalyan–Taloja Metro corridor to understand how this elevated line is being built, how stations and viaducts are taking shape, and why this project matters for the next phase of growth across the eastern Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The corridor will connect Kalyan with Dombivli, the Palava and Palava Phase 2 growth belt, Shilphata-side development areas, Nilje and Taloja, while improving access towards Navi Mumbai, Kharghar and the wider Thane region. For commuters from Kalyan, Dombivli, Ulhasnagar, Thane and surrounding residential and industrial clusters, Metro Line 12 has the potential to create a much stronger mass-transit alternative to heavily congested road corridors. The bigger story is connectivity. With the Kalyan–Dombivli region expanding towards Palava, Taloja and Navi Mumbai, infrastructure such as Metro Line 12 can increasingly influence where people live, work and invest. The corridor also forms part of a larger future metro network connecting the Thane–Kalyan side of MMR with Navi Mumbai. In this video, we look at the construction of Mumbai Metro Line 12, elevated metro stations, U-girder installation, integrated metro and flyover structures, high-level viaduct sections and the engineering challenges involved in building rapid transit through one of MMR’s fastest-changing urban belts. Areas and locations covered around the corridor include Kalyan, Dombivli, Palava, Palava Phase 2, Taloja, Kharghar, Ulhasnagar, Thane, Navi Mumbai and the wider Kalyan–Shilphata region.
