In the Coral Triangle, in Southeast Asia, some corals appear to be resisting global warming. These colonies, which are between 50 and 100 years old, seem healthy; however, their appearance alone is not enough to trace their history. Have they experienced periods of stress? Under what conditions did they develop? How did they recover after environmental disturbances? To answer these questions, scientists on the Tara Coral expedition are collecting samples of coral skeletons. Through core sampling and analysis of these natural archives, they aim to identify the events that have shaped the corals’ lives. This is a crucial step toward understanding their mechanisms of resilience and guiding future coral conservation strategies. Chapter 1: 00:00 - Introduction to the Tara Coral Expedition Chapter 2: 00:46- Coral Skeletons: A Record of Climate Change Chapter 4: 5:49 - Palau: The Voices of Local Communities In this third episode of the Tara Coral expedition, join our scientific team as we explore the memory of corals. 🩵These expeditions are made possible by your support.
