The light goes down as the walk goes on: shop windows come on along the road, then the route reaches the Suzhou Creek — Zhapu Road Bridge at 7:52, and the Waibaidu Bridge at 13:50, opened in 1908 as the first all-steel bridge in China and the only surviving camelback truss bridge in the country, known in English as the Garden Bridge — and finishes at the northern tip of the Bund, Huangpu Park, where Suzhou Creek meets the Huangpu River. Huangpu Park is Shanghai's oldest and smallest park: laid out in 1886 as the Public Garden, the first park in China open to the public, and now the site of the Monument to the People's Heroes. Across the water Lujiazui is lit up — the Oriental Pearl Tower, Jin Mao Tower, the Shanghai World Financial Center and Shanghai Tower — with sightseeing boats crossing in front of them.
