LA SAVINA 🇪🇸 A relaxing 4K sunset walking tour through La Savina, the port of Formentera and the gateway to the island: marina kiosks, white arcades, the old salt tower, the famous FORMENTERA heart, the fast ferries to Ibiza and a golden sunset over Es Vedrà. Real ambient sounds, no talking: just the walk, the sea and the atmosphere. Formentera has no airport: the only way in is by boat, so almost every visitor passes through La Savina, over two million passengers a year. The fast ferry to Ibiza takes about 30 minutes. We start among the marina kiosks, then pass an old stone tower most people ignore: the salt mill of the Salinera Española, a heritage site since 2004. Salt was Formentera's "white gold": a little railway carried it to the dock, called "El Guafe" from the English "wharf". The salt works closed in 1984. Before 1901 the real harbour was the Estany des Peix lagoon behind the village. The name comes from the sabina, the juniper whose wood held up the roofs of old Formentera houses. Under the white arcades: bike rentals, cafés and boutiques with a hippie soul. Cars are not always welcome: from June to September visiting vehicles need a permit (€6 a day, electric cars free). Then a Fiat 500 dripping with paint 🎨, the hippie market kiosks and La Veleta (1988), a copy of the Tower of the Winds in Athens with eight sundials for eight winds. At a beach bar everyone waits for the same show: the sunset. In the marina big changes are coming: in July 2026 a €16 million project was approved, with new buildings, terraces and even artificial reefs 🐟. Then the view over the ferries, the big blue FORMENTERA heart 💙 and the maritime station. The island is only about 83 km² with around 12,000 residents. We end past the little lighthouse, on a rocky shore. The water is so clear thanks to Posidonia, UNESCO heritage since 1999, and one meadow may be 100,000 years old! On the horizon: Es Vedrà, the rock legend links to Homer's sirens 🧜‍♀️. A moment of memory: from 1939 to 1942 a Franco-era prison camp stood near this port, holding over 1,400 people.
