LA CALETA 🇪🇸 Tenerife's Fishing Village in Costa Adeje | 4K Walking Tour

LA CALETA DE ADEJE 🇪🇸 A relaxing 4K walking tour through La Caleta, the old fishing village of Costa Adeje in the south of Tenerife: seafood restaurants on the volcanic cliffs, narrow alleys, the colourful "Angel of La Caleta" mural, fishing boats, natural pools and a wild lava coast. Real ambient sounds, no talking: just the walk, the ocean and the atmosphere. La Caleta is young: it was born in the 20th century, when the first families lived in caves and simple huts, surviving on fishing and farming. The village even had a small pier and a packing house that shipped fruit to England, and its oldest houses were once rented through Fyffes before being sold to the families who lived there. Today it is famous across Tenerife for its fish restaurants, where the catch of the day is served a few metres from the sea. We start on the seafront, with terraces built right on the black volcanic rocks and the Atlantic shining in the sun. On clear days you can see La Gomera on the horizon. Then we walk into the old alleys, where a giant colourful mural of butterfly wings called "Angel of La Caleta" 🦋 brightens up the white houses, down to a tiny beach, and past fishing boats pulled up on the shore. Fun fact: some fishermen here simply swim out to their boats! 🏊 Behind the village lies the Sitio de Interés Científico de La Caleta, a protected natural area of 78 hectares since 1987. In February 2026 the island government completed a €487,000 restoration: illegal cave camps were removed, secondary paths were closed and around 3,500 native plants were planted 🌿. We climb up through quiet residential streets, where the new La Caleta is growing fast with luxury hotels, elegant restaurants and real estate windows, then come back down to the seafront promenade heading west. These waters are part of Europe's first Whale Heritage Site 🐋, home to pilot whales all year round. At the end we pass the little white chapel of San Sebastián: every January, during the fiesta of the patron saint, horses, goats and dogs are blessed and taken into the sea! In summer the fishermen honour the Virgen del Carmen, who goes out to sea on a boat covered in flowers (in 2026 the fiestas ran from 22 July to 3 August). We finish among natural pools and black lava rocks, where the coast becomes wild. 🌼 THE BLOM SIDE OF THIS WALK Fresh fish, turquoise water, white houses, a colourful mural and the sound of the Atlantic on the lava rocks.
