Giving Up Halfway — chinese idiom story for kids, Chinese ink-wash animation with Chinese & English subtitles. "One thread, two threads — one inch of cloth a day." Yue Yangzi's wife weaves at her loom, inch by inch, while he crosses two mountains to study with a teacher, promising to return only when he has finished. But after just one year — blossom, yellow leaves, snow — the door creaks open: he missed home. His wife says nothing. She picks up her scissors and cuts the half-woven cloth right through: it was woven thread by thread, and now all that work is wasted — and isn't leaving your studies halfway just the same? Red-faced, he shoulders his books again, does not look back once, and stays away for seven whole years until he has truly learned. Children learn the idiom 半途而废 (bàn tú ér fèi: to give up halfway) and how to use it, the characters 途 (road) and 废 (to give up; wasted), and one original line from the Book of the Later Han.
