Mexico - James Taylor - Bass Cover - Request

Hello 😊 Here’s my transcription of the James Taylor song “Mexico.” This song comes from his 1975 album Gorilla, and the bass player was legendary studio musician Leland Sklar. You can find this on Muzento under the Beginner Songs category. I really like how Leland held onto the notes and observed the rests. I think it lets the song breathe and creates a really nice feel. From my experience, playing like this in a live situation is very much appreciated by the band and can really help lead to some magic on stage. The bass has a lot of power in a band...use it wisely and sparingly at times. Haha :) I also really like the chromatic approaches he plays in the last two bars of the chorus. Tasty! :) Read this one down and blend in behind the vocals. Hold onto the notes and pay attention to the rests, especially on beat 4.
