Hanginaround - Counting Crows - Bass Cover

Hello 😊 Here’s my transcription of the Counting Crows song "Hanginaround". This track comes from their 1999 album This Desert Life. The bass players associated with the recording were Matt Malley and Davey Faragher. You can find this transcription on Muzento under the Advanced Songs category. What a nice surprise this bass line turned out to be. I've always liked the song and the feel they came up with, but I didn't realize just how deep the groove was until I started practicing it. This is a seriously groovy bass line! Great rhythms, lots of creativity, and it's all built around just three chords. It really shows what you can do with just 3 chords! From what I've read online, the band was struggling to find the right groove for the song during the recording sessions. Davey Faragher came into the studio and recorded a demo bass track that helped inspire the direction of the song. The story goes that part of that original demo performance was mixed into the final recording. I have no idea which part, though. If anyone knows more about that story, I'd love to hear it. I love what he plays in the 2nd verse! Like I said, the rhythms are fantastic in this song. You really want to lay back and hold onto some of the notes for as long as you can. The same goes for the 16th notes on the "ahs"—don't rush them. This one is a lot of fun to play along with, and for some of you it'll be a great study in 8th-note and 16th-note rhythms, as well as learning to be patient and sit in the pocket.
