A Chabad House is a community centre providing kosher food and lodging for Jewish travellers; there are around 5,000 such centres in over 100 countries worldwide. The Hiriketiya premises were not yet operating as a Chabad House, and following local protests, police confirmed the operators were given 14 days to vacate the site.
