Britain has invaded, fought in, or sent armed forces into almost nine out of every ten countries on Earth. In 2012 the historian Stuart Laycock went through every country in the world and found only 22 that Britain never got to, and one of them is right in the middle of Europe. Watch the map turn red: the Hundred Years' War, Francis Drake and the privateers, the colonies, the East India Company, the burning of the White House in 1814, Buenos Aires, the Opium War, Kagoshima, Crimea, Egypt, Tibet, the 1922 empire, the invasion of Iceland in 1940, and the 22 countries that escaped, from Sweden to the Marshall Islands. Is your country on the red list, or one of the 22? Tell me in the comments.
