What if World War 2 happened with today's world leaders? We replay the Second World War from 1938 to 1945 with one change. Hitler, Mussolini and Japan's leadership make every decision exactly as they really did, with the same armies, the same borders and the same technology. But the people sitting across from them are the leaders of 2026: Donald Trump in Roosevelt's chair, Vladimir Putin in Stalin's, Emmanuel Macron in Paris, Britain's prime minister Andy Burnham in London, Xi Jinping in China's chair, Donald Tusk and Karol Nawrocki in Warsaw, and Recep Tayyip Erdogan in neutral Turkey. Does the war end sooner? Is it bloodier? And who really wins? The rule for this alternate history: nobody says a word they haven't actually said. Every quote in the video is real, and every prediction is built from what these leaders have really done since February 2022, when Russia's invasion of Ukraine put all of them through something like a rehearsal for this war. When we guess, we tell you it's a guess. To keep score we use the famous Yalta photograph of February 1945. Each chair goes to whoever holds that seat today, but only if their country stays in the fight. On the back of the photo, the day the war in Europe ended, May 8, 1945, is written in pencil, and every decision can move it. Along the way: Munich and the Sudeten crisis of 1938 without the Munich Agreement, Czechoslovakia fighting alone, Putin and the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, the invasion of Poland and Westerplatte, the fall of France in 1940 and the offer of an Anglo-French union, Macron and the French fleet, the Blitz, Lend-Lease and Trump's "you gotta pay", Greenland, Turkey and the Montreux Convention, Operation Barbarossa, Pearl Harbor, Xi Jinping in Chiang Kai-shek's seat, D-Day, the Yalta Conference, the atomic bomb, and the verdict on who wins the Second World War with this lineup. Chapters 0:00 Today's leaders can't stop talking about WW2 1:59 Munich, 1938, with Macron and Burnham 7:29 Putin and the Nazi-Soviet Pact 9:08 Poland and the fall of France 13:45 Our biggest bet: France keeps fighting 15:42 Trump in Roosevelt's chair 19:08 Erdogan, Barbarossa and Putin 23:49 Pearl Harbor, Xi Jinping and D-Day 28:22 Yalta and the atomic bomb 33:03 The verdict: who wins WW2? With this lineup, who really wins the peace? Which of these leaders comes out of 1945 with the most, and which chair do you think we got wrong? Tell us in the comments, and bring your evidence.
