In 1166 an Irish king was driven out of his kingdom. So he sailed to England and asked for help, and the Normans who came stayed for 750 years. This is who ruled Ireland, from Newgrange to today: the dozens of Irish kingdoms and the High King, Saint Patrick, the Vikings who founded Dublin, Brian Boru at Clontarf, Diarmait Mac Murchada, Strongbow and Aoife, Henry II, the Pale, Henry VIII, the Flight of the Earls, the Plantation of Ulster, Cromwell, the Boyne, the Penal Laws, 1798, the Act of Union, the Great Famine, Home Rule, the Easter Rising, the Treaty and partition, the Republic, the Troubles and the Good Friday Agreement. Should Northern Ireland stay in the UK, or should Ireland be one country again? Tell me in the comments.
