Northern Voices: Sue & Wes - You Don’t Have to Do It Alone

For our next Northern Voices story, we meet Wes, a care partner who shares his experience supporting his wife, Sue, through dementia. At first, Wes knew something was changing, but he did not understand why. Frustration, hurt, and uncertainty became part of their lives until he realized something important: “I need help.” Finding the Alzheimer Society changed his approach to caregiving. Through education, support, respite, and connections with others who understood what he was experiencing, Wes learned new ways to support Sue while also caring for himself. His message to other care partners is simple. Asking for help is not something to be afraid of. There are people in our communities ready to listen, guide, and support you. As Wes shares so powerfully, “They have literally given most of my life back again. And my sweetheart’s.”
