Sophie hit Field View Drive three and a half feet from its edge and slid 12 feet to where she stopped. The State's crash detective turns that slide into a speed. This is the Life360 trial of Cooper Ouellette, on trial in the death of Sophie Ringquist, who left his truck on a Burlington, Connecticut road in May 2023. Cooper told police she jumped out at about ten miles an hour. Detective Spencer Bronson worked the road that morning. Then the defense asks about a second spot, the warrant, the data recorder, and Life360. His unit only knew of one spot, and nobody from it processed another. Was this reconstruction built on the whole record? --- WATCH WITH JUSTICE 0:00:00 What this video is, and a preview 0:00:12 Intro 0:00:49 to 0:04:37 - Video starts: After the morning break, the State calls crash detective Spencer Bronson. 0:04:37 to 0:08:01 - He places the scene on Field View Drive, near Sophie's home at number 28. 0:08:01 to 0:16:48 - A cowboy boot and a hair clip on the road, and the marks left where she slid. 0:16:48 to 0:20:21 - He pins where she first hit the road: three and a half feet from the edge. 0:20:21 to 0:23:12 - The truck was heading west, away from her home. Was it in its own lane? He can't tell. 0:23:12 to 0:26:18 - Skin and blood in about five places, and her boot where she came to rest. 0:26:18 to 0:28:12 - The boot's evidence seal is cut in front of the jury, then its matching pair. 0:28:12 to 0:33:18 - Crushed tree seedlings trace a path to the hair clip, about 100 feet away. 0:33:18 to 0:36:04 - No skid marks on a wet road, and his number: about 13 to 15 miles an hour. 0:36:04 to 0:41:24 - Cross opens: the defense subpoenaed him too, and asks who really led the case. 0:41:24 to 0:45:56 - Did Sophie leave the truck twice? He says his unit only knew of one spot. 0:45:56 to 0:48:54 - No sign the truck slowed down. Then the defense raises Life360 and 20 miles an hour. 0:48:54 to 0:49:32 - The judge withdraws that Life360 question, then tells the returning jury. 0:49:32 to 0:54:06 - A meeting at the medical examiner's office, and when was the warrant signed? 0:54:06 to 0:59:28 - How he built 13 to 15.8 miles an hour: the 12-foot slide and a formula. 0:59:28 to 1:00:27 - He admits he found no evidence the truck, or its rear tire, struck Sophie. 1:00:27 to 1:02:28 - Why he says the passenger door opened: a video he was given. 1:02:28 to 1:07:16 - The truck's data recorder was downloaded. He says nothing was recorded on it. 1:07:16 to 1:10:22 - Did the truck have GPS? He calls that outside his job, and court breaks for lunch. --- COMPLETE CASE COVERAGE justiceisaprocess.com SUBSCRIBE for daily trial coverage and hit the notification bell so you never miss testimony. State of Connecticut v. Cooper Ouellette. Connecticut Superior Court in New Britain, Judge Chris Pelosi presiding. Ouellette, of Harwinton, is charged with first-degree manslaughter and delivery of alcohol to a minor in the May 20, 2023 death of Sophie R., 17, of Burlington, after a party in Terryville. Prosecutors allege she fell from or was struck by his pickup truck; the judge has ruled that Life360 phone location data may be shown to the jury, and the defense disputes its reliability. Ouellette has pleaded not guilty. Evidence is set to begin October 29, 2026. He is presumed innocent unless and until the State proves each charge beyond a reasonable doubt.
