She Ran a Business—How Did a Man She’d Never Met Get $1 MILLION From Her?

This is a true story about Debby Johnson, a widowed U.S. Air Force veteran and successful businesswoman who lost more than $1 million in a devastating online romance scam. After losing her husband, Debby turned to online dating and met a man calling himself Eric, who claimed to be a wealthy international businessman from London. Over two years, daily messages, promises of marriage, fake business emergencies, and an elaborate network of supposed relatives slowly earned her trust. What began with a $2,500 request escalated into repeated Western Union payments and international wire transfers. Debby eventually drained her savings and retirement funds and even borrowed $100,000 from her elderly parents. The scam finally collapsed when the person behind “Eric” appeared on camera and admitted the relationship had been a fraud. #DebbyJohnson #Eric #RomanceScam #OnlineDatingScam #MillionDollarScam -------------------------------------- Source & Editorial Note: We are not the investigators, journalists, or organizations that originally investigated this case.
