Griffs Magic Theatre 21st October 2026

Welcome to Griff’s Magic Theatre, where the records are carefully chosen and the route between them would give a satnav a nervous breakdown. Before we go any further, a small warning: there’s no sound from 29:25 to 30:38. YouTube’s copyright gubbins have somehow decided that the last part of Hell Preachers Inc – Time Race 2 is actually Hanni und Nanni 26 – Schwere Entscheidung für Hanni und Nanni, which appears to be a German children’s story. We’ve had to mute that section, so if everything suddenly goes quiet, your speakers are fine. If that’s what German children get at story time, bedtime must be a terrifying business. This week we begin with an Hourglass, encounter Lucifer And The Egg, and meet The Stooges, who have brought a rather unusual request. Tommy Steele takes us back to the caveman era, The Treniers save us a fortune on shampoo, and The Sorrows appear to have been let loose with the paint chart. There’s garage rock, psychedelia, soul and rock ’n’ roll, with familiar names rubbing shoulders with records that deserve a little more daylight. The Manish Boys make two appearances, Zoot Money brings The Uncle Willie, and Strawbs introduce us to the Queen of Dreams. Quite a guest list. We hope someone’s brought extra chairs. Smokey Robinson & The Miracles want More, More, More Of Your Love, Timebox are Beggin’, and The Ambassadors finish with Too Much of a Good Thing. A charge Griff is quite prepared to plead guilty to. Pull up a chair, turn it up, and let these 22 records blow the autumn cobwebs away.
