Nobody Tells You Consulting Is A Job Hunt Every Day (Scott Myles)

Scott Myles is the Managing Partner of Inventory Planning Partners. Scott Myles spent more than a decade in supply chain, inventory planning and data analytics, with roles at HP, Wayfair, The Ambr Group and Philips. At Wayfair he travelled the country helping suppliers plan their inventory around Wayfair's fulfillment platform, and realised he was already doing the work of a consultant. He started taking on clients from his network as a side hustle in the evenings and on weekends, and when a third client came along he had to choose between his corporate career and his own firm. In 2025 he left corporate to run Inventory Planning Partners, which builds inventory planning systems for mid-sized companies that move physical product, connecting data from their different systems into dashboards, reports and automations their whole team can use. In this conversation, Scott explains how to go independent without one big leap, why finding the next client is the hardest part of consulting, and where AI is changing the work. Expect to learn why you can test consulting while still in a full-time job, why so much B2B lead generation advice misses that sales is about relationships and trust, why mid-sized companies underuse the software they already pay for, what happens when an inventory process lives in one person's head, how Scott uses AI and no-code tools like Parabola to build automations in hours instead of months, and what anyone thinking about going independent should take from his experience, and much more… - 0:00 Cold open 0:33 Welcome 0:46 A Life In Golf 3:32 Going From Corporate To Independent 5:43 When The Side Hustle Hit A Third Client 9:03 The Pay Cut And Betting On Yourself 11:18 Why Sales Is The Real Challenge 15:04 Where Mid-Sized Companies Struggle With Inventory 20:46 Where AI Fits In 26:05 One Thing To Take Away 27:24 Where To Find Scott Myles - 🔗 Guest & Resources Connect with Scott Myles:   / scott-myles   Website: https://inventoryplanningpartners.com - Get in touch in the comments below or head to...
