Access to reliable water remains a challenge for many communities in KwaZulu-Natal, particularly in uMkhanyakude District Municipality, where shortages, ageing infrastructure and difficulties extending water services to remote areas continue to put pressure on supply.
Several areas across the district, including Big Five Hlabisa, Jozini, Mtubatuba and parts of the Hluhluwe area, have faced water supply challenges, highlighting the need for sustainable solutions to improve access to water.
The municipality has pointed to infrastructure investment and water tankers as part of its response.
But how far are these interventions addressing residents' needs, and what more needs to be done to ensure a reliable water supply?
For the latest updates, we are joined by the Executive Mayor of the uMkhanyakude District Municipality, Councillor Siphile Mdaka, to discuss the current challenges and the municipality's plans to improve water provision.
