On October 28, 2026, two high-speed trains collided near Urda, in the province of Toledo, on the Madrid–Andalusia line, killing dozens of people. According to early reports, one train ran into the back of the other, on a line protected by an automatic system designed to make exactly that impossible. In this 3D breakdown we explain how high-speed rail safety works, what we know so far, the questions investigators will have to answer, and why this is Spain's second deadly crash on the same corridor this year. This is a preliminary 3D reconstruction based on early reports. Details may change as the investigation continues. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.
